Walton County BOC to consider rezone for U-pick blueberry farm in the county

In the first meeting of 2020, the Walton County Board of Commissioners will consider a rezone that could bring a U-Pick Blueberry Farm to the Social Circle/Covington area of the county. They will consider a request by Joseph Harper and Merlon Harper to rezone 8.97 acres at 3320 County Line Road from A1 (Neighborhood Residential) to A (Rural Residential) to allow for the U-pick blueberry farm. The harvest would be seasonal, in June and July.

“Customers can pick blueberries for a fee, buy pre-picked blueberries and other blueberry deserts and drinks,” the applications reads. It also notes, “U-Pick can provide local schools field trips to U-pick, learn about the varieties and benefits of blueberries, allow local residents the experience of picking and consuming the nutritious superfood, filled with healthy antioxidants and more.”

This is just one of the items on the BOC agenda. The meeting is at 6 p.m,. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at the Historic Walton County Courthouse on S. Broad Street in Monroe. The public is invited to attend.
