Walton County damage possibly result of downburst or tornadic activity

Walton County Fire Rescue was keeping Walton County EMS Director Carl Morrow updated on the damage in Walton County as a result of Monday’s storms. Assistant Fire Chief Craig League said it is up to the National Weather Service to make any determination as to whether it could be the result of a downburst or tornadic activity, but the possibility is being looked into.

Walton County government reported on its Facebook page that Walton County Fire Rescue, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, and Walton County Public Works all responded to calls involving downed trees, downed power lines, and property damage as a result of the afternoon’s storm. There was significant damage to two homes. One home is located on Old Highway 138 and the other on Hillview Drive.

“They are currently working with Walton EMC to disconnect power to the downed lines so they can begin removing the debris. Cannon Farm Road between Highway 138 and Old Highway 138 and Hillview Drive will be closed to thru traffic as they work to clear the roads,” Walton County public information officer Patrice Broughton reported. “When traveling in and around this area, please be mindful of your surroundings and travel with caution. Remember not to touch or approach downed powerlines as they can be active. If you see a downed powerline, please call 911.”

There are reports that the second round of storms in as many days has caused damage to many areas in Walton County. Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Craig League there are lots of calls going on due to the severe weather.
“Some of the Areas involved: Kent Rock Road, Emmett Still Rd, Centerhill Church Road, Hilltop Drive, Green Road, and Cannon Farm Road,” League said. “(There are) multiple reports of storm damage, at least one home damaged in Walnut Grove. Lots of powerlines down in several locations.”
Storms on Sunday resulted in a significant amount of storm damage, including a home at 2330 Old Hickory Place struck by lightning and multiple trees down in the county.
