WCSO Alerts: Warning of phone scams, some using WCSO as a ruse

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office reported the following Crime Awareness Community Alerts for Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

ZONE 1

Safety Check – Walton County deputies conducted a safety check on Monroe Jersey Road and H D Atha Road. Deputies checked for the required driving criteria:  valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance. No arrest or citations in reference to this Safety Check.

Theft- Deputies took a report at a residence on Habersham Circle in reference to complainant reporting an unknown individual taking several items from complainants residence sometime between 8:00pm May 15thand 8:30pm May 16th.

ZONE 3

Safety Check – Walton County deputies conducted a safety check on Stanley Christian Road and Snows Mill Road. Deputies checked for the required driving criteria:  valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance. No arrest or citations in reference to this Safety Check.

Scam- Deputies took a report at a residence on W H Malcom Road in reference to complainant reporting they received a phone call from an unknown person claiming to be with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and advised the complainant had to pay money over the phone to avoid being arrested for failing to report for jury duty.

Fraud- Deputies took a report at a residence on Sandy Ford Road in reference to complainant reporting an unknown individual opened a credit card account in the complainant’s name and made several purchases.

ZONE 5

Scam- Deputies took a report at a residence on Roscoe Davis Road in reference to complainant reporting they received a phone call from an unknown individual who advised the complainant had to pay money over the phone to avoid being arrested for failing to report for jury duty.

ZONE 6

Suspicious Person- Deputies responded to the area of Cook Road in reference to complainant reporting an unknown individual was knocking on their door around 9:30pm. Deputies thoroughly checked the area, but had no contact with anyone.

Safety Check – Walton County deputies conducted a safety check on Centerville Rosebud Road and Manor Way. Deputies checked for the required driving criteria:  valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance.
Arrests and Citation in Reference to Safety Check:

  • Zion Cowart was arrested for two outstanding Terroristic Threats warrants and an outstanding Dissemination Through Computer warrant out of Walton County.
  • Kwame Rogers was arrested for Driving While License Suspended.
  • One motorist was cited for Driving While License Suspended.

Arrest- Karaydrian Forde was arrested in the area of Atlanta Highway and Lawrenceville Road for Driving While License Suspended following a traffic stop.

ZONE 7

Arrest- Demery Lang was arrested in the area of Highway 138 and Cannon Farm Road for Driving While Unlicensed following a traffic stop.

Theft- Deputies took a report at a residence on Thompson Mill Road in reference to complainant reporting an unknown individual took mail from the complainants mailbox sometime between 12:00pm and 3:30pm.
