The National Weather Service at Peachtree City has issued a flash flood watch for several counties in Georgia, including Walton, Gwinnett and surrounding counties. The Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 8 p.m. this evening, July 31, to the evening of Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018.
Beginning at 8 p.m. this evening through Thursday evening periods of heavy rain are likely as deep tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico streams north across much of Georgia. An average of 2 – 4 inches of rainfall is expected in the Watch area. It is possible for several creeks and rivers to rise out of their band closing roads and impacting homes, businesses and farms. The high water may not recede until well after the rain ends.
Stay tuned for possible flash flood warnings. Flash flooding can be very dangerous and you should be prepared to take action should a warning be issued.
