MINOR FLOODING BEGINS OF THE WOODLANDS UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM FROM THE RIVER GAUGE AT NEW HOPE ROAD. …THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING FOR THE ALCOVY RIVER NEAR LAWRENCEVILLE AFFECTING GWINNETT AND WALTON COUNTIES .RECENT HEAVY RAINFALL HAS CAUSED SIGNIFICANT RUNOFF INTO STREAMS AND RIVERS WHICH WILL CAUSE FLOODING IN SOME AREAS. * AT 222 PM EDT, DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO FIVE INCHES. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY. * SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE… GAINESVILLE, LAWRENCEVILLE, CONYERS, WINDER, MONROE, COVINGTON, JEFFERSON, COMMERCE, WATKINSVILLE, DANIELSVILLE, ATHENS, SNELLVILLE, LILBURN, LOGANVILLE, BRASELTON, AUBURN, DACULA, SOCIAL CIRCLE, GRAYSON AND STATHAM. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ONE TO TWO INCHES.. ARE POSSIBLE IN THE WARNED AREA. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the local area until 8 p.m. Sunday evening, June 8, 2019, including Walton, Gwinnett, and surrounding counties. According to Weather.com, “Rounds of Heavy rainfall can be expected across the area with amounts of 2 – 3 inches possible in short periods of time.” This could give the potential of flash flooding.
