Weather Alert: Heat Advisory in effect for Walton and surrounding counties Monday and Tuesday

A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Walton and surrounding counties for both Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 12 – 13, 2019. The Heat Advisory for Monday remains in effect until 8 p.m. this evening and then goes back into effect between noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. And if the heat doesn’t get you, there is a third advisory – for a high pollen count. This evening there is a high pollen alert for ragweed.

HEAT INDEX VALUES…UP TO 106 DUE TO TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S, AND DEWPOINTS IN THE MID 70S. * TIMING…THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY EVENING AND TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. * IMPACTS…THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY MAY CAUSE HEAT STRESS DURING OUTDOOR EXERTION OR EXTENDED EXPOSURE. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF DANGEROUS HEAT IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE HEAT INDEX READINGS OF AT LEAST 105 DEGREES AND VERY WARM OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS, STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM, AND STAY OUT OF DIRECT SUNSHINE. REMEMBER, THE ELDERLY, THE VERY YOUNG, AND PEOPLE WITH HEART CONDITIONS ARE MOST AT RISK IN EXTREME HEAT. FRIENDS, RELATIVES, AND NEIGHBORS SHOULD CHECK ON PEOPLE WHO MAY BE AT RISK. WHEN POSSIBLE, RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK, THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS.
