Walton County Fire Rescue reports that there have already been a couple of serious car crashes this morning, Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, due to the icy road conditions.
“Early this morning at 6:25 am WCFR responded to a two-car accident on Double Springs Road at Jennifer Springs Way,” said Battalion Chief Craig League with WCFR. “One driver had serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.”
League said rescuers were hindered by icy road conditions.
“Another accident took place at 7:51 am on Ammons Bridge Road. That accident involved a single vehicle versus a power pole,” League said. “There was only minor injuries reported at this accident. This crash caused a power outage in the area due to the damaged pole.”
League said Walton EMC responded to restore power to the areas that had lost it. Greg Brooks with Walton EMC said the auto accident broke pole on Ammons Bridge Road this morning and knocked out Poplar Street substation circuit 3 feeding 2048 meters. He said power restored in less than an hour.
Motorists are urged to continue to be careful if they have to get out on the roads. The Special Weather Statement expires at 10 a.m. but many roads remain icy.
