Weather Alert UPDATE: Tornado Watch in Walton and Gwinnett until 9 p.m.

Update: The Significant Weather Advisory and Tornado Warnings expired but a Tornado Watch has been issued for several areas, including Walton and Gwinnett until 9 p.m.

Update: The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for the local area, including Walton and Gwinnett, until 5:45 p.m.

Tornado Warning for… Southeastern Gwinnett County in north central Georgia… Northwestern Walton County in north central Georgia… Until 545 PM EDT. At 513 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Youth, or 9 miles northeast of Conyers, moving north at 15 mph. HAZARD…Tornado. SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation. IMPACT…Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. Locations impacted include… Snellville, Loganville, Grayson, Walnut Grove, Between, Jersey, Bold Springs, Windsor, Youth and Rosebud. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. The National Weather Service has issued a Significant Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. for Northeastern Walton County, Northwestern Morgan County and Western Oconee County.

At 501 PM EDT…National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a strong storm within a tropical rain band over Ebenezer, or 9 miles southeast of Monroe…moving north at 20 mph. HAZARD…enhanced risk of a brief tornado. IMPACT…Storms embedded within a tropical rainband have exhibited localized rotation. A brief tornado could quickly form. Some locations in the path of this storm include North High Shoals, Bostwick, Good Hope and Ebenezer.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… People outdoors should seek shelter immediately.
