At 1:35 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, the National Weather Service extended the Winter Weather Advisory to include Walton, Madison, Oconee and Clarke counties until 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017. Gwinnett County has been put under a Winter Storm Warning until the same time on Saturday.
The NWS is advising that a wintry mix or light snow is expected to occur. Expect slippery road conditions and snow accumulations of up to one inch. A few slick spots could develop on area roadways, especially on bridges and overpasses. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate through the day and into the evening so motorists are urged to be prepared for reduced visibilities at time. The NWS is warning of travel difficulties and urging motorists to use caution while driving.
In Gwinnett County, snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches with locally higher is expected. Slick and dangerous road conditions are possible, especially on elevated bridges and overpasses. A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are occurring. If you have to travel, you are urged to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
