My name is Kiayla Carter, and I am a freshman at Monroe Area High School. I was born in Greensboro, NC, and moved to Georgia when I was 6 years old. Since I’ve been in Georgia for a while, I have had plenty of time to make friends. I like to put my grades before anything else, but I also really like to sleep. Saying that I like to sleep may make me seem like a lazy person, but that is not the case at all. I don’t get to sleep much because I always look after my two younger brothers. My friends say that I am very trustworthy and a good person to count on. I enjoy helping my friends with their academic and personal problems to some extent. I am also told that I am fun to be around. I am a member of the Monroe Area marching band. I currently play the trumpet, but I would like to learn how to play other instruments in the future. When I am not busy with school work, I like to listen to music.

The news has become an interest to me, so I read the newspaper occasionally. My interest in current events leads me to believe that working on writing for the local news would be a great opportunity. I hope that I will become a better writer through this program and that journalism is something that I can possibly do in the future.
