9th Annual Big Jump Skydiving fundraiser in Monroe planned for May 11

In 2018, about 50 skydivers raised more than $150,000 for the ESP summer camp program. Anybody who missed out can get in on the fun next weekend. According to the ESP website, the Big Jump was the brainchild ofLaura Whitaker, M. Ed., who began her relationship with Extra SpecialPeople, Inc. by working as a counselor and, subsequently, a leadership team member in 2003 and then director in 2004 after the founder, Martha Whyllie passed away.

 “I had always wanted to skydive and I knew other people would want to check it off their bucket lists, too. Big Jump would be an extra push for people to jump and do it together for charity,” Whittaker said on the website, going on to add that after meeting with Skydive Monroe several years ago, the idea was formed for it to be superhero themed.

“We bring together food, fun, and entertainment to create a festive environment for watching our jumpers make their descent. In past years, there has been live music, pony rides, bounce houses, special guest appearances, crafts for the kids, and plane rides. So bring the whole family to spend the day at the Big Jump,” ESP, Inc. urged. “For the last six years, ESP participants, staff, board members, and community partners have become superheroes by diving for dollars. In 2016, 45 skydivers helped raise $60,000 to send some extra special people to their favorite place: ESP summer camp. Now it’s your chance to do the same.”
