After 4 years, When Pigs Fly BBQ restaurant has closed its doors permanently

With so much promise at the 2021 Monroe Christmas Parade, When Pigs Fly, the veteran-owned independent BBQ restaurant, announced that it would be opening the following year in Monroe at the old Kaity’s Downtown building on North Wayne Street.

Today, it announced on social media that, like Kaity’s before, it too is having to close its doors.

“To our amazing community, It is with heavy hearts that we announce When Pigs Fly BBQ has officially closed our doors after 4 wonderful years. To all our incredible customers, neighbors, and friends in Monroe: THANK YOU. We opened this restaurant with a dream to bring slow-smoked, all-American BBQ to downtown Monroe, GA. The memories, laughs, and friendships we’ve built over the last 4 years mean the world to us.”

With that, it announced that the restaurant is now closed, going on to request that if anybody is looking for staff, they highly recommend consideration be given to the now unemployed staff from When Pigs Fly.

“We have amazing, hardworking staff members who are now looking for new employment opportunities. If you are hiring or know of local openings, please reach out to us—we would love to help connect you with these fantastic individuals.”

At the start of 2026, three Monroe restaurants closed, one briefly but the other two permanently. Mals Krazy Krab and The Roe have remained closed. Another restaurant, the Thirsty Moose followed suit the following month, announcing after less than two years that it would be closing.
