Breaking: 3 Gwinnett teens die in wreck following Meadowcreek High football game

Three Gwinnett County teens were killed in a single vehicle wreck on Friday night and a fourth remains in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center. The accident happened at about 10:16 p.m. Friday night as the teens were leaving the Meadowcreek High School football game.

According to Jacob Albright, public information officer for Gwinnett County Police Department, a Toyota 4-runner driven by Brandon Martinez, 18, was traveling south in the left lane of Steve Reynolds Boulevard when it approached a slower moving vehicle. According to eye witnesses and evidence collected at the scene, it swerved to the right to avoid colliding with the vehicle resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle. It hit the guardrail then went airborne and hit a tree, causing extensive damage and resulting in the death of Martinez and two of the passengers, Nelson Umanzor, 18 and Naseer Alwakeel, 16. The fourth passenger, Messiah Allen, 17, remains in a critical condition at GMC in Lawrenceville.

Albright said speed is being investigated as a contributing factor.
