Athens, GA (October 6, 2019) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reports it has been asked to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Oct. 5 that involved an Athens-Clarke County police officer.
According to a press release from the GBI, the preliminary investigation indicates that just before 5 p.m. on Saturday officers responded to a domestic-related incident at University Gardens Apartments located on Baxter Drive in Athens. He reportedly ignored commands to drop the machete and attacked one of the officers. The officer fired at the subject, striking him. The subject was transported to a local hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
