A serious traffic crash on the Social Circle Bypass late Friday afternoon resulted in one driver having to be extricated and airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Cal Barton said Jason Hand, 33, of Covington was the driver who was airlifted. He said that Hand was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe south on Social Circle Parkway when, for unknown reasons, he traveled into the northbound lane striking head-on a 2017 Ford F350. The F350 was driven by Joel Gibson, 62, of Hoschton. The area of impact was in the northbound lane of Social Circle.
Gibson was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
“Both drivers were restrained in their respective vehicles,” Barton said. Charges are pending from driver 1 (Hand). No drugs or alcohol are suspected for either driver. “
