Breaking: Houses struck by lightning, trees and power lines down in Walton County

Walton County emergency personnel were kept busy Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2019, as a line of severe storms came through the area bringing down trees and power lines. In addition, three houses were struck by lightning.
“Multiple calls resulted from the line of severe storms that moved through the area,” said Walton County Assistant Fire Chief Craig League, adding that the three houses struck by lightning were in the Walnut Grove Youth area of the county. “None were on fire upon fire department arrival. There were also multiple reports of trees and power lines down in the same area as the lightning strikes. Most of the trees were in the Broadnax Mill Road area near Youth-Monroe Road.
League said the lightning strikes were on Cambridge Way, Malachi Way and Ansley Forest Drive. He said at 6:30 p.m., crews were still out assisting with the removal of trees from the roadway.
