One person is being investigated in connection with the shooting
MONROE, GA (Oct. 12, 2024) Chief R.V. Watts with Monroe Police Department confirmed that a male was shot today, Oct. 12, in the 100 block of Perry Street in the City of Monroe.
Watts said in a press release on social media that at about 12:14 p.m., officers responded to the location in reference to a person shot.
“Officers discovered that the victim, Leonard Cox, Jr., had been shot once in the head and was transported to an Athens Area Hospital for treatment,” Watts said, going on to add that during the investigation detectives found this allegedly to be an ongoing dispute between the victim and a female. “The shooter in this incident was a third party and is currently detained at the City of Monroe Police Department for further investigation.”

No details were given on the current condition of the victim.
