Breaking: Overnight shooting in Social Circle leaves one Monroe man dead, another in custody

Just one week into the new year, Social Circle is faced with a homicide investigation. The victim and the alleged shooter are both from Monroe.

Social Circle Police Chief Tyrone Oliver said that at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday night, Social Circle Police were called to the 600 block of Meadows Lane in Social Circle regarding a fight. They were advised that a man had been shot multiple times and had left the location in a silver car. Oliver said that Walton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were subsequently flagged down by a silver car on Highway 11 in the area of Lipscomb Road where three juveniles inside the car told them that their uncle, who was driving, had been shot multiple times. The victim was transported to Clearview Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries. He has been identified as Jonathan Rajiv Gresham, of Monroe.

“Social Circle Police Department has arrested 32-year-old Keith Katrell Malcom (corrected – he initially gave an incorrect name) from Monroe in connection with the homicide and he is being held at the Walton County Jail charged with aggravated assault, murder, four counts of cruelty to children, possession of a firearm during a commission of a crime, possession of firearm by a convicted felon and possession of schedule 1 drugs with intent to distribute,” Oliver said in a press release. “Thus far, the investigation revealed that there was some type of verbal argument inside the residence during a get together between Jonathan Gresham and (Keith Katrell Malcom.)  The two men went outside and shots were fired.  As of now, it is unknown what the argument was about and this investigation is still on-going.”

Oliver said SCPD is being assisted by the GBI, Walton County Sheriff’s Crime Scene, Walton County DA’s Office and Walton County Coroner’s Office.

Editor’s Note: An arrest or charge do not constitute a conviction.
