Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services reports that all southbound lanes of I-85 south of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road are currently closed due to a box truck that is on fire. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish the fire of the fully involved vehicle. No injuries are reported.

“The driver advised crews that the truck was empty of contents and was not carrying a load. The cause of the fire is undetermined,” Capt. Tommy Rutledge, public information officer with GCFER.

“The area is between Boggs Road and Meadow Church Road. Duluth Highway is currently closed in both directions due to the incident. There are no other vehicles involved and no injuries are reported. The driver was checked by paramedics, but denied injuries,” Rutledge said in a separate press release. “Firefighters and Hazmat Technicians are working to contain a runoff of diesel fuel that was leaking from a ruptured saddle tank on the truck. So far the diesel fuel is being successfully contained and has not affected nearby Sweetwater Creek. State DOT is also on the scene.”
