Car fire backs up traffic in Monroe Wednesday

Traffic on Highway 138 was backed up at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning following a car fire across the road from Checkers. According to Capt. Jack Armstrong with Monroe Fire Department, the fire was out and the roadway cleared just after 9 a.m. He said the driver exited the car immediately. There were no injuries. Armstrong said it is believed that the fire started somewhere in the engine area. Details from Monroe Police Department to follow.
