Walton County firefighter Brandon Talbird was the winner last year, proving that local firefighters can do more than just take the heat. He was able to take the first Cheely’s Hot Dog Eating Contest by putting away 12 hot dogs in just eight minutes, earning first place and the handmade leather wrestling-style championship belt. Cheely said Talbird will be back to defend his title, just maybe not quite as enthusiastically as he was on the first go around. Eating 12 hot dogs in one sitting can leave a taste that’s tough to forget.
