Angels come in all shapes and sizes and this week in Monroe many of them came wearing a uniform. The Shop with a Hero program through Hometown Heroes of Walton stepped up again this year when the need is expected to be greater than ever. With the larger need, it was split into two nights, with some shopping on Wednesday and others on Thursday. In all, about 186 children got to choose a hero to help them figure out how to spend $150 to make it a great Christmas in their home this year.
Heroes on hand to make that happen included many volunteers to check the children in, help in tallying up the goods and checking them out as well as many heroes from Monroe police, fire and EMT attendants, Piedmont doctors and nurses, Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol troopers. The program partners with Walmart to ensure that everybody in the community gets to have something under the tree come Christmas in Monroe.
And as is always the case, Santa was there for that special photo to commemorate another Christmas in Monroe, Ga.
