Co-founder of Campton Restaurant passes away at 88

Leonard “Junior” Parker, one of the founders of Campton Restaurant and a lifelong resident of Walton County, passed away peacefully last Friday morning at his home surrounded by family. 

He was 88 years old and a respected business leader and pioneer in Campton.

“We are deeply saddened by this, however we are forever thankful for him and the life he lived,” a statement on Campton Restaurant’s Facebook page said. “He was an incredible man that lead by example and was always fair and honest.” 

A funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 19. Meadows Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Monroe.

Campton Restaurant, founded by Parker and his wife, Cunoy, in 1986, has become a top area destination for lunch and dinner.

A large turnout of family, friends and community members were at Parker’s funeral service on Monday.

More than 100 people posted thoughts on Campton Restaurant’s Facebook page which announced Junior Parker’s passing.

“So sorry for your loss,” said Darenda Kinney. “We love to eat at this great restaurant everyone is so nice!! And workers work so hard!! Sending love and prayers to all the families!!”

“He set a great example of customer service you all continue today,” said Ann Mitchell Hall. “That is a legacy.”

Said Vicki Stewart: “I’m so very sad to hear about Junior. So many wonderful memories. We’re praying for all of the Parker family. He will be missed.”

“He and his wife were such wonderful people,” posted Lila Adair. “We always enjoyed visiting with them in the restaurant.”
