LOGANVILLE, GA (Sept. 1, 2026) — Gabrielle “Gabby” Monique Sterling, of Cohoes, NY, and formerly of Loganville, will be laid to rest in a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, at Corinth Memorial Gardens, 1635 Highway 81 SW, Loganville, following a memorial service in what had become her hometown of Cohoes, NY. The 30-year-old nurse had spent time in the local area, where her family still lives.
Sterling died at the hands of her husband in Cohoes, NY, on Aug. 18, 2026, in a murder-suicide, according to the Cohoes Police Department, which responded to the incident.
By all accounts from family and friends, she was so much more than the circumstances of her death.
According to a GoFundMe for her family, the young nurse “dedicated her life to caring for others. As a nurse, she was compassionate, hardworking, and known for going the extra mile to make sure her patients felt seen, cared for, and supported. She was continuing that commitment to service through her education, pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with dreams of completing the program and one day opening a practice of her own. At just 30 years old, Gabby had already accomplished so much, with so much more life, love, and purpose still ahead of her.”
The GoFundMe was established to help raise funds for her family to bring her home for burial in Loganville, allowing her to be laid to rest close to her family.
“Gabby spent her life caring for others. We hope, now, that our community will help us care for her by bringing her home, honoring the life she lived, and giving her the beautiful and dignified farewell she deserves.”
According to her obituary at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Loganville, after graduating from high school, Sterling briefly lived in Georgia and began pursuing her education in nursing. She later moved to the Capital Region of New York, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College in 2020.
She returned to Sage earlier this year to pursue an advanced degree in nursing, with aspirations of becoming a nurse practitioner. She began her career as a registered nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital before transitioning to travel nursing throughout New York. She concluded her nursing career at Saratoga Hospital, where her nursing number was ceremoniously retired in her honor. She was also a DAISY Award recipient, recognized nationally for her extraordinary clinical skill, compassionate care and dedication to her patients.
