Monroe resident Brooks Shippey moved to Monroe from Forsyth, Ga, and knows people in that community which was where Tyeisha Colley used to teach. Colley is the the 35-year-old Conyers woman who died in the fatal Christmas Day shooting in Monroe.

“She had a impact across the school community that is so hard to compare. Up until the day she died she still communicated with her students from there and they adored her and are heartbroken,” Shippey said.

A GoFundme page has been set up by Steffani Simmons and one of Colley’s coworkers from the school in Forsyth at which she taught has asked Shippey if she could share it with the Monroe community as well.

Colley and her husband, Jermaul Colley, were shot at her parent’s home on Christmas Day. Her husband was injured but the Colley did not survive her injuries. Her 21-year-old nephew, Devin Sullivan, has been charged in her murder.

According to the GoFundMe page, Colley was “a loving wife to Jermaul Colley, an amazing mom to four beautiful children, and a woman whose faith and kindness touched everyone she met. She was always there for others, whether it was her family, her students, or her friends, and now her family needs our support.”

Colley’s passing has left her husband to deal with raising the children without the support of their mother, the youngest of which is only 2. According to a story on WSBTV, the three older children were adopted before the birth of their biological baby. Her parents are left not just dealing with the loss of a beloved daughter, but also with the tragedy of another daughter who has not only lost her sister, but also has to deal with her son now charged in her sister’s murder. And Colley’s parent’s too are left in the unimaginable position of having lost a daughter and having a grandson charged in her murder.

According to the GoFundMe page, Colley’s sudden passing has left a hole in their hearts and many unexpected expenses.

“We’re coming together to honor Tyeisha’s memory and help her husband and kids during this incredibly hard time. If you’re able to give, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to her family. Thank you for showing them love and support as they navigate this heartbreaking loss,” the GoFundMe page notes.
