At the January City Council meeting in Loganville, Cooper Elementary School second-grader Caleb Scott Davis got to be Mayor for a Day. His final duty was to attend the Loganville City Council meeting on Jan. 9 and, although he wasn’t officially sworn in with the rest of the council, he did get to take a seat with the rest of the City Council, next to Mayor Rey Martinez.
“This is a new program that I’ve instituted. We will choose a student from our of the local schools to be Mayor for a Day,” Martinez said in introducing Caleb. The program, School Choice Week in Loganville, gave Caleb the opportunity to tour the fire and police departments as well as City Hall. He was given a certificate by the Mayor as well as from Loganville Police Chief Mike McHugh. His family was in attendance and a slide show was presented showing the proud second-grader during his “mayoral duties” in the lead up to his attendance at the meeting.
