Could You be saving money on your internet service?


When working on your family budget, saving even a few dollars per month can add up very quickly. For Example, Spotify premium only costs $12 per month, however, that adds up to $144 per year, if you are willing to put up with the ads. In a similar vein, saving even few dollars on your internet subscription could yield big savings over the year.

One option is that you may be paying for more internet that you need. Internet is often advertised base don how many Megabites per second or MBPS you can download. This is very important, but only if you are downloading lots of files every single day or streaming video all the time. What may matter more is the bandwidth that your internet provider offers to you. Consider dropping down one run on the speed ladder for a month to see if you family has any issues. This may save $20 to $30 per month without much hassle.

Another option is to consider changing to a different service provider in your area. Companies will tell you if you go on their website if they offer service in your area, you could also call their customer service to find out. If your area only has a single traditional internet provider, you may want to consider cellular or satellite internet. Cellular internet uses the same network as your mobile phone, just at a lower priority. Companies likes AT & T, Verizon, and T-mobile may already be your cellular service provider may offer a discount if you sign up for their home internet as well. Additionally, Satellite internet could be an option for folks living in very rural areas. Companies like Hughes Net, Viasat and Starlink using satellites in orbit above the Earth’s atmosphere to connect to the internet. This is likely an expensive option, but if you own an RV or go camping frequently, it may be a great way to keep you service on the move.

For the more technically proficient, check to see if your internet provider is charging you a monthly fee for your router. Internet Service providers may charge as much as $25 for the use of their router, which is outrageous. You could purchase your own router and return theirs to them to save on your monthly bill. Make sure you check your next few month’s bill to ensure they are no longer charging you for this service.
