COVID-19: Positive cases down by more than 50 % in Walton County since the beginning of 2021

The positive cases of COVID-19 have been going down in Walton County as well as Gwinnett County consistently since the beginning of 2021. On Dec. 31, 2020, the positive rate for Walton County was 28.5 % for the past two weeks. Today, Feb. 10, 2021, it is down to 13.7 % for the past two weeks. The Georgia Department of Public Health is reporting 439 positive cases in Walton County the past two weeks compared to 963 for the prior two weeks on Dec. 31.

Similarly, the Gwinnett County positive rate on Dec. 31 was 20.7 % for the prior two weeks and today is down to 13.8 % for the past two weeks. The GDPH is reporting 4,720 positive cases in Gwinnett County for the past two weeks compared to 7,208 positive cases reported for the prior two weeks on Dec. 31.

These positive percentages, however, are still higher than the average for Georgia. The overall positive rate for Georgia is 11.2 % overall and 9.9 % for today.

Editor’s Note: Per 100,000 Walton County is down to 458 per 100,000 for the previous two weeks compared to 1,005 per 100,000 for the previous two weeks on Dec. 31. Similarly, Gwinnett County is down to 486 per 100,000 for the previous two weeks compared to 742 per 100,000 for the prior to weeks on Dec. 31.

The death rate, however, continues to be high, especially in Walton County. It is currently at 180.6 per 100,000. Gwinnett County is currently at 80.4 deaths per 100,000.

The following is a snapshot of the statistics reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021. Gwinnett County is reporting eight more deaths, Walton County is reporting two more deaths and Georgia is reporting 123 more deaths over the weekend.

Walton County

Cases – 6,977 54 – 23 more cases reported in the past 24 hours – 439 in the past 2 weeks 
Cases per 100,000 – 7,282 cumulative (458 per 100,000 in past 2 weeks)
Total deaths – 173 – that’s 2 more deaths reported in the past 24 hours (deaths per 100,000 is 180.6)
Testing 13.7 % positive in the past 2 weeks, overall 15.3 % (13.7 % of those tested came back positive over the past 2 weeks) 

Gwinnett County

Cases – 76,883 – that’s 284 more cases reported in the past 24 hours (4,720 in the past 2 weeks).
Cases per 100,000 – 7,917 cumulative (486 per 100,000 in past 2 weeks)
Total deaths – 781 – That’s 1 more deaths reported in the past 24 hours (80.4 deaths per 100,000 reported)
Testing – 13.8 % positive in the past 2 weeks, overall 13.2 % (13.8 % of those tested came back positive over the past 2 weeks)

Georgia

Confirmed cases – 780,494 – that is 2,481 more cases reported in the past 24 hours. An additional 1,180 Antigen positive cases also were reported in the past 24 hours for a total of 3661.
ICU admissions – 8,684 – 33 more admissions reported in the past 24 hours. Hospitalizations – 52,543 – That’s 381 more hospitalizations reported in the past 24 hours.
Total deaths – 13,599 – That is 121 more deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

A total of 6,734,381 PCR/Molecular tests have been performed and 456,581 antibody tests. That is 22,794 PCR/Molecular test results reported in the last 24 hours. Of the these tests performed collectively, 752,452 (11.2 %) have come back positive and 66,061 (14.5%) antibody tests have come back positive. Today 2,266 (9.9 %) PCR/Molecular tests came back positive.

Walton County Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities

(These figures are updated as of Feb. 9, 2021)

Great Oaks, Monroe – 30 confirmed staff members and 65 residents. That’s no more resident and no more staff members reported positive in the past 24 hours. There have been 13 deaths, that’s no more reported in the past 24 hours.

Hollander Senior Living, Monroe – Four residents, 3 confirmed staff case, two deaths – That’s no more staff members, two more residents reporting positive and no more deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

Magnolia Senior Living – Loganville – (Gwinnett County) has 3 staff members who have tested positive and 1 resident – That is 1 more resident reported and no additional staff case reported in the past 24 hours.

Park Place, Monroe – 120 resident cases, 66 confirmed staff cases, 35 deaths – That’s no more staff members, no more residents cases and no more deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

The Retreat at Loganville Pearl Memory Care – 33 confirmed resident cases, five deaths – 9 staff members – That’s no more staff members, no more residents and no more deaths in the past 24 hours.

The Retreat at Loganville: 39 confirmed resident cases – 25 staff cases and 6 deaths. That is no more residents, no more staff cases or resident deaths in the past 24 hours.

Social Circle Nursing and Rehab in Social Circle is reporting that 23 residents and 13 staff members tested positive for COVID-19 and two resident death were reported. No more cases reported or deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
