Covington man shot when he allegedly attempted an armed robbery in Gwinnett County

Gwinnett County Police are reporting that a Covington man was shot in the early morning hours of Tuesday when he and a 16-year-old attempted to victimize residents at a home in Peachtree Corners in Gwinnett County.

GCPD report that officers responded to a “person shot” call at about 3:45 a.m. at 3177 Terrace Court. The caller reported that two males broke into his home and he shot at them. He told police that he thought the suspect was shot twice and there was a trail of blood at the scene. One suspect was located by police at the entrance of the complex as they arrived. The other was seen fleeing in a white Dodge Challenger. He has been identified as Antonia Nix, 19, of Covington.

Local hospitals were notified of the incident and to be on the lookout for a gunshot victim. Nix was later found hospitalized at Grady in Atlanta with a gunshot wound.

GCPD report that the preliminary investigation reveals that two adult males were inside the home “hanging out” when the two suspects burst through the unlocked door. Nix was armed with a handgun. The two demanded items from the victims, who were both armed themselves. When one of the victims fired his weapon and struck Nix, he and his 16-year-old accomplice fled.

The vehicle has been identified as one that was allegedly stolen in the city of South Fulton on Aug. 19. During crime scene processing, drug-related objects were allegedly found on the scene and it is being investigated as a possible drug-related crime. Investigators believe the suspects and victims may have known each other prior to the crime.

The 16-year old suspect was charged with armed robbery and Nix is facing a criminal charge out of Atlanta Police Department. Warrants will be obtained for him in reference to the Terrace Court incident at some time in the future. Update: He has now been charged with armed robbery in Gwinnett County.
