On Wednesday, October 3, 2018, there will be a test of the national Emergency Alert System. While most people are familiar with the radio and television emergency broadcast tests, this year the system will test cell-phone based Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) for the first time.
During the test, WEA-enabled cell phone users will receive a test message with a “Presidential Alert” header.
Greg Swanson, the Director of the Office of Emergency Management for Gwinnett County, says, “Wireless emergency alerts received at the right time can help save lives during an emergency, so make sure the emergency alerts feature is enabled on your mobile device.”
