First Grader from Loganville passes away from flu complications

The Walton County School District is confirming that the community lost a first-grader from Youth Elementary School today, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018.

“The entire Walton County School District community is saddened by the sudden loss of our student. We extend our deepest sympathies the student’s family, loved ones and peers during this difficult time,”  said Callen Moore, spokesperson for WCSD.
Moore said the district’s Crisis Intervention Team and school counselors will be on campus Friday to help any students, teachers or parents in need of assistance surrounding this loss. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise funds for her funeral. The name of the student given on the GoFundMe page is Emily Maddox. The page has been set up by her grandmother, Margie Maddox.
According to the information on the GoFundMe page,  the 7-year-old from Loganville began fighting the flu on Friday and was lifeflighted to Children’s Hospital at Egleston on Tuesday. She lost her battle on Thursday morning.
