A former employee of the Walton County court clerk’s office was arrested Friday after a more than 3-year-investigation. Melinda Joyce Castels, 52, turned herself into the Walton County jail early Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2019, to faces charges of felony theft and oath of office. She bonded out the same day after a bond of $25,000 was set, according to Walton County Senior Assistant District Attorney Jacqueline Fletcher.
Fletcher said the investigation began in June of 2016 and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was immediately called in to work the case. The GBI is the only agency involved in the investigation.
Before leaving the Walton County court clerk’s office under the investigation, Castels had risen to the office of chief deputy clerk.
