Gwinnett County – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2020, involving the Georgia State Patrol and a 16-year-old in an alleged officer involved shooting.
According to a press release from the GBI, the preliminary information indicates that at about 1:25 a.m. trooper attempted to stop a vehicle that was driving without headlights. The vehicle failed to stop and led troopers to a dead-end near the 1600 block of Indian Brook Way in Norcross. The 16-year-old driver, but then backed up towards the trooper as he exited his vehicle. The trooper fired his weapon during the incident, hitting the driver. A passenger exited the vehicle and ran. He has not been arrested at this time. The driver was taken to Northside Hospital Gwinnett where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury. The vehicle allegedly turned out to be stolen in Gwinnett County.
No troopers were injured during the incident. Once the GBI investigation is complete it will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’ Office for review.
