ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced that the Georgia State Transportation Board approved the Best Value Awards for the second round of the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program at its November 20, 2025 meeting. This action advances the state’s efforts to build a reliable, statewide fast-charging network to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across Georgia.
Georgia DOT is awarding more than $24.4 million in NEVI funds to 26 locations through public-private partnerships (P3) that will support the construction and operation of new, federally compliant fast-charging stations along the state’s Alternative Fuel Corridors. Selected private-sector partners will design, install, finance, operate and maintain stations equipped with Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) ports for at least five years in accordance with federal requirements.
The effort continues Georgia’s work to expand a statewide network and drive investment in communities across the state, including rural areas. Each site will include four DCFCs capable of operating simultaneously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Depending on the vehicle, drivers will be able to fully recharge in as little as 20 minutes.
The Round 2 procurement process was designed to close strategic gaps in the network following the initial round of awards made in 2024. Georgia DOT identified 33 potential NEVI locations near key exits and interchanges, primarily in rural areas. The procurement generated strong industry interest, with 41 project site proposals submitted for 26 of the 33 locations.
Following a comprehensive evaluation based on federal NEVI requirements and Georgia DOT best-value criteria — including site readiness, charging reliability, grid capacity, community impact and long-term operations — six awardees were selected to install and operate the federally-eligible charging stations.
“Our robust infrastructure network has set Georgia apart in attracting business, promoting travel, and providing reliable transportation for all Georgians,” said Governor Brian P. Kemp. “This investment will help further secure our status as a national leader in innovation and infrastructure for years to come. We appreciate Georgia DOT for fulfilling the state’s commitment to a robust, reliable fast-charging network that meets federal standards and serves communities across Georgia.”
“Georgia continues to lead the way in electric mobility by investing in infrastructure that strengthens our transportation network, promotes economic development and improves the experience for EV drivers statewide,” said Georgia DOT commissioner Russell R. McMurry. “Georgia DOT is proud to do our part to implement this federal investment responsibly, closing gaps in the statewide network and ensuring that fast, reliable charging is available where Georgians need it most.”
Funding for the NEVI program was included in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which allocated $5 billion nationwide over five years for states to deploy EV charging infrastructure. Through a formula calculation to states, Georgia was allotted approximately $135 million to support a national network of EV chargers, with NEVI funds covering up to 80% of project costs. The private-sector partners will cover the remaining share of costs. Procurement was conducted in accordance with Georgia DOT’s federally approved NEVI plan.
Georgia DOT developed its NEVI implementation approach with broad industry stakeholder input to ensure an interconnected statewide EV charging network in accordance with federal law that meets customer needs, reduces range anxiety, supports data collection and provides secure, accessible and convenient public charging options.
