Over the last year, local residents have watched the old Walton Regional Medical Center on Breedlove Drive in Monroe be completely gutted and then renovated from the inside out to open this week as Ridgeview Institute – Monroe, the new psychiatric hospital on Breedlove Drive.
This new 70-bed behavioral hospital will serve children, adolescents and adults in the Atlanta-Athens corridor. According to the website, it will provide a full continuum of behavioral health and addiction treatment services.
The Ribbon Cutting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, and the hospital will begin serving patients next week. According to officials, “Ridgeview Institute – Monroe will be a leading provider of acute behavioral health care in the region.” The hospital has promised to provide FREE community education events as part of its mission to provide a choice for mental health and addiction treatment.
US Healthvest first applied to build a new 70-bed acute care psychiatric and substance abuse inpatient program in the spring of 2014 with initial plans to locate on Georgia Avenue in Monroe. It later changed plans, purchasing the old Walton Regional Medical Center in the summer of 2015 and began renovations in October of that year. Part of the project included new mechanical and electrical systems with the latest energy preservation and efficiency. According to the website, “the renovated 76,000 square foot hospital will offer a safe and secure environment with semi-private patient rooms, outpatient program space, patient activity areas, a full commercial kitchen with a large dining area for patients and staff, indoor exercise room, and outdoor courtyards.”
