Gwinnett County Schools closed Monday due to inclement weather

Gwinnett County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Jan. 8, due to inclement weather, according to a post on the GCPS Facebook page. The County is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 5 a.m. to noon on Monday. Callen Moore, spokesperson for Walton County School District, said that, at this time, it is expected to be a normal school day for Walton County Schools. Walton County is not in the advisory area.

“Based on the most recent weather briefing from the National Weather Service, we plan to operate on a normal schedule. Our team will continue to monitor the weather closely and make a final decision tomorrow morning,” Moore said.

According to the National Weather Service, light freezing rain is expected to develop during the overnight hours into Monday morning in portions of north and central Georgia, including Metro Atlanta. Gwinnett and Barrow County are in the advisory area. Less than a tenth of an inch is expected, but this will result in difficult travel conditions during the morning commute on Monday. Motorists are advised to expect difficult travel conditions. Be prepared for slippery roads.

Gwinnett County students and identified employees are advised it will be a Digital Learning Day. Students should log in to their teacher’s eCLASS C&I page to access assignments. For a refresher course on how to access eCLASS C&I, students should go to the following web page: http://publish.gwinnett.k12.ga.us/…/eclass-c-and-i-course-p….
