Piedmont Walton Hospital expands imaging center with new tech

Piedmont Walton recently unveiled its new and improved imaging center, boasting not only a new MRI machine, but a variety of other new devices and other equipment designed to make the Monroe hospital more versatile than ever.
Guests dropped by last Thursday to see the imaging center, which has a new MRI suite, as well as a number of other enhanced imaging capabilities.
“This was a big capital investment,” Joey Vira, director of imaging services at Piedmont Walton, said. “It’s just the latest in a series of improvements we’ve been making in the last four years.”
Such improvements include a new CT scanner, a fully automated x-ray machine, a new fluoroscopy machine and more.
“We’re really getting the program going here,” Vira said. “It allows us to get more support for our radiologists.”
Vira is especially placing more emphasis on cardiac imagery, as well as expanding capabilities for breast examinations and other scans that allow Piedmont Walton to do more on site than ever before.
“This is a big deal for the community,” Vira said. “We’re really excited about this.”
Such expansions are paying out, Vira said. Last year, Piedmont Walton’s imaging center conducted 78,000 procedures, compared to only 30,000 or so in 2020. The $13 million investment has allowed
them to not only offer more services, but longer service hours, with earlier starts and weekend hours.
“It’s all about the people,” Vira said. “It’s about being a part of the community.
