On April 14, 2018, Loganville Christian Academy hosted its first “Day With the Pros”, which started out as a mere idea for head football coach Andre King. The camp was a free community event available to sixth-grade through 12th-grade students.
When asked where he got the idea for the camp, King said, “[I] had a meeting with my assistant and one of [our] parents as to how we could create a buzz for football in our community. They thought I should utilize my background as a former NFL player in order to drive interest [for our football program] since young players look up to NFL players.”
King played in the NFL for four years for the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland, Ohio. Using his connections he made during his playing years, he was able to invite NFL players Kelly Holcomb, James West, Felipe Claybrooks, Jon Stinchomb, and Greg Rhodes to train the camp participants. King said this had a very positive effect on the camp participants. “It is very rare that High School players would get to meet NFL players, and to be trained by them in person; that’s priceless.”
Already, King is reaping the benefits of the camp. “It got parents and players who would not have normally visited our campus a reason to visit us. As a result, we have gained several players in the process. Some parents and players went on a tour of our school immediately following the camp, while others visited at a later date.”
