LCA sees success with Barton Program

press release from Loganville Christian Academy

Informational Zoom Meeting for the public to be held March 18

Loganville Christian Academy recognized the need for a program to equip lower school students struggling with reading and writing with the tools necessary to succeed. Back in 2017, LCA began using the Barton Reading and Spelling System to provide tutoring opportunities beyond the classroom to assist these students.

The Barton Reading and Spelling System is a one-on-one research-based, Orton- Gillingham influenced tutoring method that helps students who struggle with a learning difficulty in the areas of reading, spelling, and written expression. The Barton program helps students learn to read and spell by sounding out words instead of relying on memorizing a sequence of letters.

“Tutoring students in the Barton Reading and Spelling System for the past three years has been a privilege,” said Barton tutor Jenny Van Der Meer. “I have personally observed struggling students come to life using this intense program.”

“For the first time ever in his short and sweet little life, my son is reading a book in his free time without being asked,” said LCA parent S. Williams. “I’ve dreamed of this day. His confidence has soared since starting Barton.”

LS Principal Amy McCaulley and Van Der Meer will be hosting an informational Zoom meeting March 18 to discuss the benefits of early intervention for students struggling in the areas of reading and writing using this award-winning program.

LCA’s Barton Program is available for LCA students as well as students who do not attend LCA. Enrollment into the Barton Program is currently open. Please visit our website at or contact Jenny Van Der Meer at for more information and to register for the Zoom meeting.
