Once again this year, both Loganville High School baseball coach Jeff Segars and player Bay Witcher have been honored in the world of Georgia High School baseball. With another state championship under their belt, Segars and Witcher have been named the Georgia Dugout Preview’s Coach and Player of the Year for Georgia Class 5A Baseball.
In making the announcement, Georgia Dugout Preview noted that Witcher finished as “one of the most dominating pitchers in state history,” with 10 victories against state playoff teams in different classifications. He also was credited with the save in the second game of the championship playoffs against Buford, enabling the team to win the championship in two straight games. Segars was honored as Coach of the Year after leading Loganville to its second straight title and the fourth under his leadership in 11 seasons. The Loganville Red Devils also set a school record with 35 wins this season. Last year, Segars and Witcher were honored by the Braves Baseball 400 Club with Segars being named Coach of the Year and Witcher named an All Star player.
Witcher has signed with Troy University. He and his family is seen here with Segars (second from left) at the signing ceremony last year.
