Local fire departments get together for joint live fire training exercises

Five area fire departments met Saturday for joint live training exercise at an acquired structure in Social Circle. Capt. Jeff Allen with Walton County Fire Rescue said the live training took place at an abandoned residence at 906 S. Cherokee Road at a building that was donated to the Social Circle Fire Department for training purposes. Most of the organization for this was done by Chief Ken Zaydel of Social Circle with some assistance from Allen.

“Social Circle Fire Department and the Walton County Fire Rescue training division worked together to prepare the structure and plan the training, which also included firefighters and instructors from Loganville, Morgan County and Newton County Fire Departments,” Allen said. “It provides a unique opportunity for firefighters from different departments to train together under realistic conditions.”

Allen said the way the departments worked and trained together on Saturday morning will help them work together at 3 a.m. when the call they get is for real.
