Local public safety kept busy with fires; one now an arson investigation

Walton County Fire Rescue and City of Monroe were back out in cold temperatures on Saturday battling a house fire, this one on Pannell Road near Vine Street, just outside the Monroe city limits.

“The cause is under investigation, but it is not suspicious,” Capt. Jeff Allen with WCFR said, adding there were no injuries to occupants or firefighters, but a family of three was displaced.
A house fire on Pilot Road on Friday shut down the road for a while as firefighters put out the fire. There were no injuries, but a canine did not survive the fire, according to WCFR Battalion Chief Craig League. In that case too, fire investigators expect the fire to be ruled accidental. However, a fire on John Stowe Road on Jan. 2 has been ruled arson.
“Investors from the State Fire Marshals Office and Walton County Sheriff’s Office are working the case and are actively seeking information from the public. If anyone has any information please contact Walton County Sheriffs Office at 770-267-6557,” League said.
