Will feature kids activities, music from Departure, fireworks
(Loganville, GA. – June 12, 2019) The City of Loganville will host a revamped Independence Celebration from 5 to 10 p.m. on June 29th at the football fields at West Walton Park.
This year’s celebration is in partnership with Walton County and will include a number of activities for the kids, a live concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Journey tribute band Departure, as well as food vendors and the ever-popular fireworks display.

“Each year we always take a look at our events and try and find a way to improve them, and this year we felt that the city’s Independence Celebration needed a more permanent home,” said Kristy Daniel, events and marketing director for the City of Loganville. “In doing so, we found a great opportunity to partner with the county and provide our residents with a different opportunity than in years past.”
The Independence Celebration started first as a community-organized event in 2006 with Patrick Fenneran and his wife, Sharon, serving as the driving force in getting the event off the ground. In recent years it has become a city event, expanding on the parade down Main Street to add a concert as well as a fireworks show. But overall support for the parade has declined over the past few years and in revamping the overall event, the decision was made to do away with the parade.
“It was not an easy decision for us as organizers to eliminate the parade from the Independence Celebration, but we looked at a number of different factors and in the end decided to focus our efforts on expanding the festivities around the fireworks display,” Daniel said.
The fireworks will be launched from the baseball fields at West Walton Park, meaning the park itself will be closed to the public. In addition, Twin Lakes Road will be closed from the entrance to the Meridian Community Center to Tom Brewer Road from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The celebration itself will use the two football fields located adjacent to the Loganville Police Department. One field will be used for inflatables and other kids activities while the other will be used for those wanting to set up chairs or blankets to watch the concert and fireworks show. There will also be food vendors set up in the parking lot of the police department.
Parking for the event will be available at the Meridian Community Center, with a shuttle provided to the West Walton Park football fields. Additional parking will also be available at First Baptist Church of Loganville, located on Tom Brewer Road.
