Loganville to discuss millage rate, plans for health department Monday

The August Work Session of the the City of Loganville will take place at 6:30 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, in the new City Hall Council Chambers. This will be the first official public meeting in the new city hall at 4303 Lawrenceville Road.

Items on the agenda include an update on the Loganville location of the Walton County Health Department, which is currently housed at 680 Tom Brewer Road in the Police Department building. Discussed at a previous meeting of the Loganville City Council was the possibility of this department moving into the now vacant old Loganville City Hall on Pecan Street. City Manager Danny Roberts said at that time that he was in talks with the health department about the possibility of it relocating to the Pecan Street property.

“They are looking to expand and finding better ways to serve the public,” Roberts said. At the time he also noted that the very popular toddler park also would stay at that location and would continue to be open to the citizens. The track at the new city hall will become some sort of recreation and playground that also would be open to citizens.

Roberts is expected to give an update on the status of the possibility of the health department moving at Monday’s City Council work session. Also on the agenda is the 2017 millage rate, proposed at 10.83 mills, which does not reflect an increase in property taxes for city residents.
