LPD Reports: Citations issued after alleged illegal use of handicapped parking sign

The Loganville Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Jan. 30 – Feb. 13, 2017. Please note a charge or arrest does not constitute a conviction.

Jan 30, 2017

A 33-year-old Loganville man was arrested and charged with speeding in excess of maximum limits and driving while license suspended following a traffic stop at Whits Inn after he was observed allegedly traveling at 53 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. His license came back as suspended for failure of child support obligation. He was arrested, charged and released on a copy of his citation.

Feb. 3

An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old woman were charged with disorderly conduct and misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after they were allegedly observed taking items from Publix in Loganville without paying. The unpaid items located between the two totaled $188.04. They were arrested, booked and transported to Walton County Jail.

Feb. 4

A 41-year-old Loganville man was charged with driving without a valid license and tag light required following a traffic stop for a tag light out.

Feb. 7

A 47-year-old Stone Mountain man was charged with driving on a suspended license after police allegedly watched him pull up and park in a handicapped space and go into Kroger in Loganville with a female passenger. They placed a handicapped sign on the dashboard. When they exited and were confronted by the officer, they allegedly claimed the woman had been driving and that the handicapped sticker belonged to his mother, who was deceased. When his licensed came back suspended, the vehicle was released to the passenger and he was booked and charged and released on a copy of the citation.

Feb. 8

A 51-year-old Loganville man was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after he was allegedly seen at Walmart allegedly picking up sunglasses and then returning them without paying for them. He was refunded $29.96 before being stopped by police trying to exit the store. He allegedly told officers he was “just trying to eat.” He was charged and released on a copy of the citation.

Feb. 9

A 38-year-old Grayson man was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after he was allegedly seen skipping items while checking out in the self checkout till at Walmart. He was seen putting three items in his hand and only scanning one. The items unpaid for amounted to $125.26. He was charged and release on a copy of the citation.

Feb. 12

A 31-year-old Clarkson woman and a 35-year-old Lawrenceville man were charged with possession of amphetamine and cocaine and the woman was charged with driving while license suspended after they were stopped at a license check. The vehicle apparently approached at a high rate of speed and the driver appeared nervous. She eventually confessed to not having a license and the passenger produced one, but there was a warrant for his arrest. The vehicle was searched and allegedly turned up blue pills not in a prescribed container and a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. They were both arrested and transported to Walton County Jail.

Feb. 13

A 33-year-old Loganville woman was cited for marijuana possession after the car she was in was seen parked behind a hotel in Loganville. After an alleged smell of marijuana was detected and a search requested, a plastic bag containing what was believed to be marijuana was found in her purse. She was cited and the marijuana was taken into evidence.
