LPD Reports: Shoplifter changes into new outfit in restrooms; woman charged after officer smelled marijuana odor wafting from passing car

The City of Loganville Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Jan. 16 – 29, 2023. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

Jan. 16, 2023

• A 46-year-old Loganville man was charged with speeding and driving under the influence – alcohol, less safe, after he was clocked allegedly traveling at 64 mph in a 45 mph speed zone on Ga. 20 in Loganville. He was stopped at Ga. 20 and Tommy Lee Fuller Road. The officer noticed that he had blood on his shirt and head and was advised that the subject had been arguing with his girlfriend at another location in Walton County. A deputy from Walton County Sheriff’s Office was notified. The officer noticed the smell of alcohol and the subject allegedly failed the field sobriety test was unable to complete a breathalyzer test. He later tested at .159 on the Intoxilyzer 900. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Walton County jail and his vehicle was towed.

Jan. 18

• A 30-year-old Loganville man was charged with possession of methamphetamine, obstructing law enforcement officers and on a warrant pick up after an officer attempted to execute a warrant pick up at a local business. On seeing the officer, the subject ran out of the building into a wooded area. He dropped something on the ground while running and was arrested after he tripped and fell. The items dropped while the subject was running was retrieved and invited a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine. It was placed into evidence for testing and the subject was arrested and transported to Walton County jail.

Jan. 20

• A 59-year-old Loganville man was charged with aggressive driving and improper use of central turn lane when he was observed changing lanes rapidly on GA 10 near Brand Road while traveling westbound. He was also driving close to other vehicles and passing close to them several times before entering the central turn late at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles. He was stopped and arrested, charged and booked at LPD and then released on a copy of the citations.
• A 22-year-old Snellville man was charged with driving while license suspended after he was stopped for making an illegal left turn out of Chick-Fil-A. When asked for his license he told the officer he did not have it on him. When a check on it came back as suspended, he was arrested, booked at LPD and transported to Walton County Jail.

Jan. 23,

• A 41-year-old Snellville woman was picked up from Gwinnett County on a warrant out of Walton County and transported to the Walton County Jail.

Jan. 25

• A 25-year-old Loganville man was charged with shoplifting, less than $500, after police were called to Walmart on a report of a shoplifting suspect. He was found in the restrooms and opened packages of clothing were found in a stall he exited from. He allegedly later confessed that the only clothing of his own that he was wearing was his underwear. He had passed all points of sale without paying for the items that he had. He was subsequently arrested and his vehicle impounded.
• A 39-year-old Loganville man was charged with shoplifting, less than $500, after he was seen allegedly skip-scanning items in the self-checkout lane at Walmart and then placing them into his cart. When confronted by an officer, he allegedly admitted to having items that he had not paid for. He was issued a citation and then released on a copy of the citation. The cost of the items not paid for amounted to $75.29.

Jan. 26

• A 21-year-old Monroe man was charged with disorderly conduct, speeding and license while driving after he was stopped on Ga. 10 for speeding – 65 mph in a 45 mph zone. He told the officer that he didn’t have his license on him, but did have one. He initially gave a false name, and then when that didn’t check out he led the police to a home where he said he allegedly lived. When police went in, the homeowners did not know him. He eventually gave the correct name and his license came back suspended. He was subsequently arrested, charged and transported to the Walton County jail and his vehicle was towed.
• A 30-year-old Monroe man was arrested and charged with speeding and driving without a license, never had one, after he was clocked driving at 60 and 62 mph in a 45 mph posted zone. When he admitted that he did not have a license, he was issued a citation and his vehicle was released to his uncle, a licensed driver, who was dropped off at the police station to pick up the vehicle. However, a search of the vehicle located a cigar with marijuana in the central console. She was subsequently taken to Piedmont to have blood drawn and then transported to the Walton County Jail. Her vehicle was impounded by Eastside towing.
• Two young Loganville residents were charged with shoplifting, less than $500, after they allegedly attempted to leave Walmart through the garden entrance with items they had not paid for. These included CDs and Yugi Oh trading cards to the value of $69.39. They were arrested, issued citations, and transported to the Walton County jail.
• A 26-year-old Loganville woman was charged with failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence – drugs less safe and possession of marijuana, less than 1 ounce after an officer smelled marijuana when driving passed. He also noticed that the vehicle as not maintaining its lane on the road. He stopped the vehicle and the driver denied that she had smoked marijuana, but said she had friends in her car who did, but she had since dropped them off about 3 hours before.
• A 19-year-old Loganville man was picked up on a warrant out of Gwinnett County when he appeared in the Loganville Court. Gwinnett County confirmed the warrant and he was arrested, booked and then transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.

Jan. 28

• A 46-year-old Griffin woman was picked up from Lawrenceville Police Department on a warrant out of LPD, transported to LPD and booked before being transported to Walton County Jail.

Jan. 29

• A 43-year-old Snellville man was charged with driving on a suspended tag, expired tag and no insurance after being stopped for allegedly failing to maintain. When a test came back with the license suspended and no license and insurance, he was issued citations and the vehicle was impounded by Taylor’s Towing.
