Man airlifted to Grady Memorial after being seriously injured in overnight wreck

Public Safety officials responded to a critical motor vehicle accident on Monroe Jersey Road a little before 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019. Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Craig League reported that the wreck shut down Monroe-Jersey Road as emergency personnel worked the scene. The driver was a young adult male and Cpl. Ian S. Moreman, Assistant Commander with Georgia State Patrol Post 46 in Walton County, said the victim sustained serious injury and was initially transported to Piedmont Walton before being airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Moreman said the victim was driving a white F-250 east on Monroe-Jersey Road near Penland Road when the accident happened.

“He was negotiating a curve when he failed to maintain his lane and ran off the roadway to the right. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle began to sideslip. The vehicle continued to travel east on Monroe-Jersey while rotating counter-clockwise before overturning on its roof in the north shoulder of Monroe-Jersey, facing west,” Moreman said.

The victim is currently listed in stable condition.
