Monroe area churches host BBQ cook-off and car and bike show Saturday

What better way to end the summer than with a BBQ cook-off and car and bike show. Monroe area churches are giving you the opportunity to do just that with MAMA.

“Holy Smokes” kicks off the Monroe Area Ministerial Association’s (MAMA) first inter-church BBQ competition this weekend. This free, one-day event, begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Lighthouse World Outreach Center, 609 Gene Bell Road in Monroe. “Holy Smokes is bringing together the best BBQ chefs representing a number of local churches – and it’s not just for bragging rights. The winning church takes away a $1,000 grand prize for its mission fund.

Besides several vendors with what promises to be delicious BBQ, the day’s events include games, fun, inflatables, jumpies and cotton candy. Heaven’s Saints Motorcycle Ministry, an outreach ministry of Lighthouse, will be presenting a car and bike show and there will be a live band music concert beginning at 3 p.m. to close out the day. This concert will feature “ArkAngels.”

Stripling’s General Store at 4501 Monroe Highway in Bogart is this year’s corporate sponsor for the event.
