After taking an extended hiatus, the famed Monroe Crepe Myrtle Festival is back and, according to officials, is going to be better than ever this year.
A beloved tradition in the downtown Monroe community for many years, the festival has returned to the calendar, “bringing with it the same excitement as our famous Monroe Fall Fest,” officials say. “Enjoy a day filled with family fun, over 100 arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, delicious eats, and live entertainment. Best of all, admission is free, and there’s plenty of parking available around town. Bring the whole family and join us for a fantastic day in beautiful downtown Monroe!”
The festival had been an annual event for many years after originating following the downburst that ripped through Monroe in the early 1990s. According to the Walton Tribune, then-Mayor Harry Knight wanted a festival to celebrate the city’s return and cleanup following the destructive weather event. In its early years, the festival took place in downtown Monroe but was then moved to Hammond Park. It was shut down after poor attendance and a lack of volunteers in 2010.
However, downtown Monroe is so proud to announce the comeback of this community event that it has taken to the skies to advertise it.
