Motorcyclist charged after collision in Monroe leaves him with serious injuries

Warrants were taken for driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance and for headlight requirements on a motorcyclist who was seriously injured in an accident in Monroe on the evening of  July 12, 2019. According to Georgia State Patrol, the motorcyclist was riding a dirt bike without functioning lights.

“The dirt bike was traveling east on E. Marable Street and was approaching the intersection of Union Street and the vehicle was traveling west on E. Marable  Street and was stopped, attempting to turn left onto Union Street,” GSP Trooper First Class Sgt. James Buchanan said. “The driver said as she attempted her turn she heard something hit her vehicle so she pulled over.”

Buchanan said the driver of the vehicle would not be charged as she could not see the bike because it had no lights.

“Due to the injuries of the driver of the bike, warrants had to be taken for the charges on him,” Buchanan said. “He was taken to Piedmont in Athens.”
